The study of waterborne polyurethane was developed in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, and developed rapidly in the research and development of waterborne polyurethane, which began in the 1970s as a water-borne polyurethane for leather finishing agents. The two-component waterborne polyurethane system is composed of a dispersible body (or emulsion) of polyisocyanate and hydroxy functional groups. In this formulation, polyisocyanates are easily dispersed in water, but are not soluble in water. Instead, they are dispersed by "polyols", which are dispersed by the dispersed body of particles. After the water evaporates, it is produced into a membrane. The viscosity of the high - level - hydroxy dispersible body should be low and have some surface activity.
The group's hydroxyl group also reacts more quickly to the polyisocyanate crosslinker than to water. Therefore, for a two-component water - based system, hydroxyl - hydroxyl is prefered to the isocyanate - base reaction of the polyisocyanate crosslinking agent during normal water volatilization.
